    Job Opportunity

Posted in Minimus Sailing Team on August 21st, 2007

Well the Minimus Sailing Team has an important job opportunity for a young ambitious sailor who would like to be more involved with the campaign.

One of the most important things in sailing is looking after your equipment and this includes keeping the hull and deck as clean as possible. I am looking for a young person to help scrub the hull and deck at least once every two weeks. In return for the help, the candidate will receive some team swag, a few sailing opportunities as well as getting a bit of an education in what it takes to maintain a crazy little offshore weapon like a mini.

    Prerequisites:

    The applicant must be:

    - Good swimmer (I’ll provide the swim mask! There may be a test…)
    - Be able to work independently and to a schedule
    - Be respectful and courteous (People may approach you with questions about the boat and the campaign)

Bonus: Being a neat freak is a definite plus.

If you know of a youngster who may be interested in this position, please have them email me with a short description of why they should get the job or, if email is not your thing, please leave me a note at the KYC bar.

    Tough Race

Posted in Sailing, Mini Transat on August 2nd, 2007

The Transcascogne race has just completed in France and it was one hell of a race.  In the first leg the fleet encountered 50 knot winds and very large seas.  Some of the minis ran into some problems with breakages, keel problems and dismastings, but thankfully everyone was able to get into Santander Spain without serious incident.

Andrew Wood is a Brit who was competeing the race.  Here’s a video of what the conditions were like on board for him.  The sound is aweful, but you really get a sense of what a mini is like in big breeze.
